Our History

A brief history of the Temple is as follows

Sri Sundara Kothandarama Swamy Temple is a 350year old Temple situated at Nallur Village.

Lord Rama along with Lakshmana, Sita and Anjaneya are enshrined here.  The Main (Moolavar) idols are carved out of stone while the utsava idols are made of panchaloka.  Both the moolavar and utsava idols are a treat to the eyes.  Apart from these, stone idols of Alwars are also installed in the temple.

It is reliably learnt that till about 110 years ago, the Utsava Idol of Sri Thirumangai Alwar (from Tiruvali/Tirunagari the birth place of the Alwar near Sirkali) made annual visits to the Nallur  shrine.  There used to be a divine procession with Lord Sri Rama adorning the Elephant Vahana and the Alwar adorning the Horse vahana.

It is also said that during the wedding of Saint Thirugnanasambandar the Bridal reception took place at Nallur village which was hence known as Thirumana Nallur
